Avoid Hookup Dating Scams: Tips for Spotting Fake Sites

The most important thing to remember on hookup dating sites is that they are FULL OF SCAMS…and that those scams are REALLY EASY to identify and avoid, if you know what you’re looking for.

The first thing you need to know is what kind of scammers you’re looking for. Each of them are pretty easy to identify, and can be dealt with in different ways once you know what you’re looking for.

There are three main kinds of scammers that will use your sympathies and your hopes to get laid against you. While it might not be true that nice guys finish last, nice guys (and all guys) would do well to play it safe instead of falling into the hands of some of these unscrupulous scammers.

So, what are the most common kinds of scammers?

1. The Wounded Dove

The Wounded Dove is one of the worst kinds of scammers, because she plays on the good natures of men.

This one has two versions. The first version is when a person, who might be male or female, starts leading you on over an online chat. They’ll talk about how much they like you, how excited they are to meet-basically, they’ll make you think that everything is going well.

Then when it comes to time to meet, she’s all smiles, all happiness-at first.

The problem is that before too long, the Wounded Dove will tell you her sad story. Some of them spring the trap before they even go out with you once, telling you all about their overdue bills, or their sick cat, or their loved one’s new death. Everything would be great, they’ll assure you, if they only had a couple hundred (or thousand, depending on how rich she thinks you are) dollars.

Blue Eyed Beauty

Yes, we say “they,” because the kinds that spring the trap before you even meet? Sorry, man, but they’re usually DUDES. Even if they are girls, they don’t care about you. They just want to know what they can get out of you.

Basically, never send money to anyone you meet online. If you ever see yourself at a Western Union because of someone you met online, walk the other way. It’s a scam.

However, this scam will occasionally extend the scam if they think they can get away with it. This is one of the only scammers who will meet you in person, if it’s actually a girl.

Be very careful if your hookup starts asking you for money. Hookups usually don’t do that! Another pro tip: if she does start asking you for cash (even just to borrow it), don’t let her into your house. Chances are, she might have a case of the sticky fingers, and your new TV might develop the sudden urge to go on walkabout.

2. The Long-Distance Lover

This one is very similar to the Wounded Dove in a lot of ways. However, you stand no chance of ever meeting the Long-Distance Lover in person.

This is the most common kind of scam on ANY dating site, or any site in general that attempts to connect two people together. It’s much more common on long-term dating and marriage sites, but we’ve found LOTS of these on hookup sites as well, so beware!

This is the person who sounds like everything you want from a hookup-fun, flirty, totally wild in bed, wants you to do things to her you’ve never gotten to do with a woman before.

The only problem, she’ll say, is that she lives far away. If you could only lend her bus fare….or train fare….or plane fare…

Whether she says she’s from Somalia or from two hours up the road, one thing remains clear. If you ever find yourself standing at Western Union because of someone you met online, STOP. You are being SCAMMED.

Trust us, you don’t have to send money to a girl to get laid. We’ll teach you how to get laid with real girls, in your area, who don’t need your cash in order to survive.

3. The Fake

This girl doesn’t exist. She’s the photoshopped head of a model, and nothing about her profile is real. If you EVER get an unsolicited message from a girl that looks like a 10, delete it.

Sorry, bro. The real world doesn’t work like that, and Nigerian princes aren’t really waiting for you with a sack full of cash that they’re dying to put into your bank account.
